Shadows of the Directorate

The Aurelia limps away from the Verge battle scarred, low on spares, and running on crew who have not slept enough to think straight. Captain Elara Veylin has a ship to keep alive, a convoy mission that does not care about damage reports, and a Directorate that only sees results.

Commander Selene Veyra can feel the pressure building in every channel. The Core wants clean answers. The Verge wants someone to blame. And every official message sounds polite until you hear the threat behind it.

Mara Kesslan does what she has always done. She watches corners, counts exits, and trusts her instincts more than anyone's assurances. The problem is that her instincts keep pointing back toward the Directorate itself.

Then Corporal Kade Han brings them brig footage they cannot ignore. Their prisoner, Roarke, flinches at one name, one fragment of sensor chatter, one missing piece that never should have existed in the first place. A platform. A ghost on the scope. A thread that leads away from raiders and straight into the machinery that claims it is fighting for order.

They won the fight. Now they have to decide what it cost, and whether the Directorate will let them live long enough to pull the truth into daylight.
